Crime Statistics

Each spring, the Edina Police Department releases local crime statistics. Crime statistics are broken down into “Part 1” and “Part 2” crimes. Part 1 crimes are more serious in nature and are generally crimes against people. Included in the Part 1 crimes are murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft and theft from autos. In general, Part 2 crimes are property-related. Part 2 crimes include forgery, fraud, vandalism and disorderly conduct. As of the 2006 statistics, the category "Other" includes crimes such as embezzlement, vagrancy, prostitution, other sex offenses, gambling, drunkenness, family/children, blackmail, trespassing, perjury, bribery, contempt of court and extortion. "Other" totals for 2001 through 2005 have been adjusted for this change.

For questions about Edina crime statistics, contact Public Information Officer Molly Anderson, 952-826-1610. For state of Minnesota crime statistics, please visit the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension's website.
